We Offer Our Prayers Together

Congregational Prayer Liturgist

All: O God, we live our lives as best we can — dealing with difficult relationships and situations, putting failures and disappointments behind us, and moving into each new day with as much energy, goodwill and optimism as we can muster. But here, right now, we seldom have the right answers, we seldom seek your higher wisdom in our lives, we just move ahead. Forgive us for not asking for your insight. Fill us with your wisdom, that we may live lives of goodness and peace. Amen. Words of Assurance Liturgist Liturgist: When we come before God in humility and honesty, God draws near to us with forgiveness and renewed blessing. Thanks be to God! —Inspired by James 3 and adapted from The Abingdon Worship Annual 2009, © 2008 Abingdon Press.

We Hear The Word Proclaim

Sermon Series: James: A Love Letter Sermon Title: Things We Should Say More Often

Scripture Base: James 3:1-12 given by Rev. Matt Franks Lead Pastor TUMC

We Respond To The Word

Hymn of Response: If We Just Talk of Thoughts and Prayers

During this hymn, if you want to come forward and spend some time at the kneeling rails to pray you are more than welcome to do so. If you need the Pastors to pray with you, please let them know. If you want to join our Church family today, please come forward and let us know so we can receive you into membership.

If we just talk of thoughts and prayers And don't live out a faith that dares, And don't take on the ways of death, Our thoughts and prayers are fleeting breath.

If we just dream of what could be And do not build community, And do not seek to change our ways, Our dreams of change are false displays.

If we just sing of doing good And don't walk through our neighborhood To learn its hope, to ease its pain, Our talk of good is simply vain.

God, may our prayers and dreams and songs Lead to a faith that takes on wrongs — That works for peace and justice, too. Then will our prayers bring joy to you.

We are Sent Out To Love and Serve

Announcements Keep up with events at Tahlequahumc.org Rev. Shana Dry

Invitation to Share Love Rev. Shana Dry

Pastor: As we go, please join me in this invitation to love in 2021.

All: In 2021 we will live to have hope for the future, to live in peace, to love unconditionally, and to know the joy of the Lord so that through God we will transform the world.

Pastor: This quarter we are challenged to love unconditionally. 1 Corinthians 16:14 reads, “Everything should be done in love.” May everything you do radiate the love of Christ. As we depart from worship may the God of hope, peace, love and joy journey with you throughout your week.

Closing Hymn: Lord, You Give The Great Commission UMH 584

4. Lord, you show us love's true measure: "Father, what they do, forgive." Yet we hoard as

private treasure all that you so freely give. May your care and mercy lead us to a just society.

With the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

Thank you for joining us today in worship.
