Invitation to Experience and Share Joy Rev. Matt Franks

In this last quarter of the year, we will live to have hope for the future, to live in peace, to love unconditionally, and to know the joy of the Lord so that with God’s help we will transform the world. To know the joy of the world. Smile, God loves you. And as we worship today: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is here, let us worship the God who brings us joy in the morning.

Centering Words Liturgist

Liturgist: It is not what we do that saves us. It is the mercy and grace of God, poured out in love. The first shall be last, for God’s love turns our expectations upside down. Come and worship. All: God is here!

Liturgist: Listen for God’s word. All: It is alive and active.

Liturgist: Draw near to the source of mercy. All: The God of grace is with us.

A Modern Affirmation UMH 885 Liturgist

Leader: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith lets us now declare:

All: We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good.

We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.

We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need.

We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

We Offer Our Prayers Together

+Hymn: Morning Has Broken UMH 145

1. Morning has broken like the first morning; blackbird has spoken like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

3. Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning born of the one light Eden saw play! Praise with elation, praise every morning, God's recreation of the new day!

Celebration Ringers Special Music Amazing Grace, arr. Kimball

The Prayer of Saint Francis UMH 481 Liturgist

All: Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

For everyone born, a place at the table, for everyone born, clean water and bread, a shelter, a space, a safe place for growing for everyone born, a star overhead, and God will delight when we are creators of justice and joy, compassion and peace: yes, God will delight when we are creators of justice, justice and joy!

Celebration of Ordination of Rev. Shana Dry

Pastor Matt: Rev. Shana Dry has been affirmed, confirmed, and approved as Ordained Elder in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Elders have ordained United Methodist clergy who are ordained to a ministry of Word, Sacrament, Order, and Service. This means elders preach and teach the Word of God, provide pastoral care and counsel, administer the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, and order the life of the church for service in mission and ministry. The servant leadership of the elder takes place both in parish ministry, as well as in extension ministries, like chaplaincy, campus ministry, teaching, missionary work, general agency work, and other contexts. Elders itinerate, which means they serve in ministry settings (appointments) where the bishop assigns them. Your current appointment here at Tahlequah United Methodist Church and The NSU Wesley Foundation ministries are strengthened by you living out that calling to ordained ministry. Thank you for being faithful to God and answering that call.

Lay Leader Sueann Freeman: Shana God has called you. This calling from God has been a journey for you one of personal, professional, and spiritual growth. Today as a Church we will celebrate this ordination. On behalf of the Church, we have a gift for you, and may you continue to grow in that calling that God has placed in your life. Thanks be to God!
