Opening Hymn: All Earth Is Waiting UMH 210

1. All earth is waiting to see the Promised One, and the open furrows, the sowing of the Lord.

All the world, bound and struggling, seeks true liberty; it cries out for justice and searches for the truth.

2. Thus says the prophet to those of Israel, "A virgin mother will bear Emmanuel," for his name is "God with us," our brother shall be, with him hope will blossom once more within our hearts.

3. Mountains and valleys will have to be made plain; open new highways, new highways for the

Lord. He is now coming closer, so come all and see, and open the doorways as wide as wide can be.

Call To Worship Liturgist

Liturgist: O come, O come, Immanuel,

All: And be light for our darkness. Liturgist: Be comfort in our grief, Be a friend for our loneliness,

All: An oasis for our searching. Liturgist: O come, O come, Immanuel,

All: Restore our joy, heal our wounds, and bring us peace.

written by Dr. Derek C. Weber, Director of Preaching Ministries, Discipleship Ministries of the UMC

Invocation Liturgist

All: Loving God, be to us as a bulldozer of the spirit. Clear your road in us; clear a path through the detritus of possessions and obsessions. Thrust aside our divided aims and devious games. Topple the ramparts of pride and the doubts that deride. Make a highway on which Christ may come and take possession of the whole territory of our being. To the glory of your name, we pray. Amen!

Offertory Prayer Liturgist

All: God of mercy and grace, we pray that the gifts we offer this morning might be used to bring some compassion to the chaos that is our world. We give these gifts in love, hoping they will heal some of the hurting; and as they do, make the crooked road straight for the coming of the Christ. May the hills that separate us from sisters and brothers be made flat and may the valleys of our isolation be raised up, so we will be ready to welcome the Christ as one. In that holy name, we pray. Amen.
