Meditation for Gathering Liturgist

Liturgist: A singing God! Isn’t that what we all hope for? In the midst of troubles, struggles, and a world gone wild, we hope not only that God delights in us individually, but also that God sings over the entire world a melody of renewal. Zephaniah declared God would quiet our hearts with love and rejoice, even as God mightily delivers us. In Advent, we hope in hope.

Written from Valerie Bridgeman Davis, The Africana Worship Book for Year C (Discipleship Resources, 2008), 25.

New Testament Reading: Philippians 4:4-7 Liturgist

Response to the Reading of the Word Liturgist

Offertory Prayer Liturgist

All: God who gives all gifts, in this season, we focus so much on giving gifts to one another. Help us, we pray, to remember what John the Baptist tells us is on your wish list: that we might bear fruit worthy of the repentance that is the very heart of this season: fruit of compassion, fruit of sharing, fruit by denying ourselves so that others who have little will have enough. In response to you, we give that our fruit might please you. In the Savior’s name, we pray. Amen.

Invitation to Experience and Share Joy Rev. Shana Dry

This year we have committed to live to have hope for the future, to live in peace, to love unconditionally, and to know and share the joy of the Lord so that with God’s help we will transform the world. In this last quarter of the year, we will work towards experiencing and sharing joy. We share joy by simply smiling to our neighbors. And as we send you out this day: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. God loves you and so do I
