Offertory Prayer Liturgist
All: God of mercy and grace, we pray that the gifts we offer this morning might be used to bring some compassion to the chaos that is our world. We give these gifts in love, hoping they will heal some of the hurting; and as they do, make the crooked road straight for the coming of the Christ. May the hills that separate us from sisters and brothers be made flat and may the valleys of our isolation be raised up, so we will be ready to welcome the Christ as one. In that holy name, we pray. Amen.

Sermon Title: Arise!
Service of Holy Communion
The Great Thanksgiving for Advent
Leader: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.
Leader: Lift up your hearts and invite the Lord to our table and we will sing
This Is A Day of New Beginnings UMH 383
1. This is a day of new beginnings, time to remember and move on, time to believe what love is bringing, laying to rest the pain that's gone.
2. For by the life and death of Jesus, God's mighty Spirit, now as then, can make for us a world of difference, as faith and hope are born again.
3. Then let us, with the Spirit's daring, step from the past and leave behind our disappointment, guilt, and grieving, seeking new paths, and sure to find.
4. Christ is alive, and goes before us to show and share what love can do. This is a day of new beginnings; our God is making all things new.
5 In faith we'll gather around the table to taste and share what love can do. This is a day of new beginnings; our God is making all things new.
Leader: On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
When the supper was over he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Leader: Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and grape juice. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever. Amen.
We are Sent out to love and to serve.

What if God meant for us to go fishing with our family, in the fourth commandment? Suppose honor father and mother means to honor all fathers and mothers, and their families, all over the world. Imagine do not kill means do not kill.
Join us as we study Losing Moses on the Freeway: The 10 Commandments in America by noted journalist Chris Hedges. We will start at 9 a.m. in room 301 each Sunday morning beginning January 9, and plan to finish by March 13.

Pastor Shana's Class Following Worship
Starting Jan. 9th
Pastor Shana will lead a book study over the sermon series book Soul Reset by Junis Dotson after worship books for $11.00 will be available to purchase in the office starting Dec. 26th
About the Book: Soul Reset calls the church and all of Jesus' disciples to reset and reorder their lives around spiritual practices, to learn to walk through difficult seasons with our souls connected to the source of Living Water so that we don't burn out or break down. And if we do burn out or break down, we learn to lift up and point one another back to Jesus.
Confirmation for Youth and Adults
We are going to offer an eight-week confirmation class for Youth in 6th grade to Adults. During the eight-week sessions, the group will learn about the Christian Faith and Methodism.
We have an opportunity for the Church to help with Confirmation. We will need people to help provide a meal for the group. We will need mentors that will be a support for the person during this journey and we will need a table host that will help lead the smaller group conversations.
Setup Introduction Meeting January 30th at 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
First Class begins February 6th at 5:30 p.m. Room to be determined.
We will celebrate the Confirmands on April 24th in Worship

Parenting Class Starting Jan. 12th at 5:30 p.m.
Do you worry that you're messing up your kids? Do you get stressed when you think about their futures? New York Times bestselling author Crystal Paine knows how you feel. A mom of four, Crystal has struggled with anxiety over parenting. She wanted to parent with grace, instead of a system of rules where kids are expected to do all the right things. She wanted to be a safe place for her children, and she definitely didn't want to be remembered as the sort of mom who yelled, wounded her kids with words, or worse, cared more about her reputation than her kids' hearts.
In this book, Crystal shares the life-changing lessons that God has been teaching her about raising kids with love and grace.
In Love-Centered Parenting, Crystal will
- reveal the no-fail secret to launching your kids
- uncover the root of why we often feel so frustrated and irritated with our kids
- share the four most important choices we can make as parents
- give you the tools to keep going when you want to give up
- help you get your kids to talk to you
It is possible to parent from a place of freedom and rest, giving your kids what they truly need to thrive in this world.
