The Church Board

The Church Board is accountable to the mission of the Church, to the standards of conduct for its members (such as participation in meetings, worship, giving and so on) and to the congregation (through their annual election of leaders to whom they entrust the mission of the congregation).

The people specifically elected for interest in the areas of facilities, finance, and human relations provide focus and information in their area of specialty but do not make decisions apart from the council as a whole.

The Church Board holds the Pastor (s) accountable to fruitfulness in meeting the missional goals set for the congregation and reports regularly to the congregation.

Meetings are open to all Tahlequah UMC members.

Quorum~The members present and voting at any duly announced meeting shall constitute a quorum.

The Board sets the basic boundaries (policies) within which the congregation lives out its vision. Boundaries include allocation of resources (including finance policies and budget), ethical standards and adequate processes (such as financial practices and audits) and delegate the authority to decide what happens.

The Board establishes goals for the overall effectiveness of the congregation in fulfilling its mission.

The Board writes the policy manual and distributes the manual to every key staff person and every council member, and to anyone in the congregation who wants one. Policies include such items as Safe Sanctuary, personnel, financial, facilities, and other policies as needed.

The Church Board will also celebrate the accomplishments and service of ministry teams and all involved in the mission of Tahlequah United Methodist Church.

Other tasks assigned to the Board are those formerly fulfilled by the Church Council in ¶ 252, The Trustees in ¶ 2530-2552 in Current Book of Discipline and the Finance Committee in ¶ 258.4 of the current Book of Discipline.

Chairpersons for Finance, Trustees, and Staff Parish Relations Committee will be appointed by the Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development with approval at the Annual Church Conference.
